Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents a range of awards to acknowledge the work of AMC scientists and educators. The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School PhD Scholarship winners will be announced. The PhD Thesis Awards, PhD Thesis Design Award, PhD Publication Awards, and Best PhD Course Award are also announced at this event.
The three nominees for the Thesis Award each give a short presentation on their research. Presentations give weight to the final decision by the jury. At the end of the ceremony, all those present are invited to make a toast to the winners.
PhD Thesis Award
The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents annual awards for three most outstanding PhD theses defended in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. The thesis as a whole should make an original and significant contribution to science, and demonstrate clear understanding of the specific thesis topic(s) and the overall field of study.
PhD Publication Award
The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents annual awards for three most outstanding PhD publicications. In the medical sciences, the PhD thesis consists primarily of a series of published scientific papers. The quality, the originality and the impact of the publication, and the input of the PhD candidate in the paper will be taken into account.
PhD Thesis Design Award
PhD candidates not only spend a lot of time and effort on the content of their theses, but also on the design of the book. The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents an annual awards for PhD thesis with most outstanding cover and lay-out, defended at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam or Faculty of Medicine of the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam. The thesis cover and lay-out should show artistic quality, relevance, and originality.
PhD Course Award
ASAP, the Association for PhD candidates at the Amterdam UMC, presents an annual award for the best course in the PhD course program of the preceding year. Amsterdam UMC candidates can vote electronically to express their choice of best course in an election organized by ASAP.
