The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents annual awards for the three most outstanding PhD theses defended at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Amsterdam or VU University Amsterdam. The thesis as a whole should make an original and significant contribution to science, and demonstrate clear understanding of the specific thesis topic(s) and the overall field of study

PhD candidates not only spend a lot of time and effort on the content of their thesis, but also on the design of the book. The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents an annual award for the PhD thesis with most outstanding cover and lay-out, defended at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam or Faculty of Medicine of the VU University Amsterdam. The thesis cover and lay-out should show artistic quality, relevance, and originality
