Open fractures: a problem involving multiple tissues
Dr. Botman qualified as a specialist in 2017 and has worked at Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, since 2011. His areas of focus are mainly reconstructive surgery and microsurgery. Dr. Botman studied medicine in Amsterdam and initially specialized as a tropical doctor. He worked in Congo-Brazzaville and Tanzania, where he saw the great importance of proper treatment of difficult soft tissue defects (e.g. complex fractures, burns, cleft lip and palate and repair operations after cancer). After returning to Amsterdam, he started training as a general surgeon, where his special interest in soft tissue reconstructions and hand surgery led to further specialization in plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery.
