The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is dramatically affecting the Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands, and the world. More insights into the pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of COVID-19 are urgently required.

Within the Amsterdam institute for Infection and Immunity  (AII) we have valuable expertise that can be combined to help generate valuable new insights in all of these areas.

Therefore, the Infectious Disease Program of AII launches the AII COVID-19 call for urgent research funding to enable teams of researchers within the Amsterdam UMC and their strategic partners to rapidly pursue innovative studies to fight the ongoing pandemic.

What can be applied for

Up to € 20.000. Eligible costs are materials, reagents, consumables and analytical support. Funds must be spent within 3 months of funding. Applicants must agree to make an in-kind contribution to the cost of the proposed project (this can be the salaries of research personnel or necessary supplies). We envision funding 2-3 proposals, depending on the number and quality of proposals.

We want to stimulate interdisciplinary research. Therefore, proposals submitted to this call must involve a collaboration between at least two different departments within the Amsterdam UMC or strategic partners (GGD, Sanquin, Reade), with at least one Amsterdam UMC PI/ group leader who is a registered member of AI&II. Additional national and international partners are allowed.

Proposals on any topic related to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of COVID-19 are eligible. This includes basic research, translational, clinical and epidemiological studies. Proposals will be judged on importance for combatting the pandemic and innovativeness.
