Public health faces increasingly complex challenges for which solutions must be found. Insights from scientific research can contribute to solutions for these societal challenges. In the last 20 years, there has been an increasing focus on the link between knowledge and society, more specifically knowledge utilization: the use of project results in practice, policy, education and/or follow-up research.
Amsterdam Public Health
For optimal knowledge utilization, it is important to think about the implementation of your results right from the start and throughout your entire research project. What are effective ways to support and optimize implementation, and how do you evaluate if your knowledge/research product have been used? Knowledge utilization also has a prominent place in many of today's research proposals. 'How are you going to implement your results so that society can benefit?' is now a standard question that many Dutch subsidy providers, such as ZonMw and NWO, demand you to think about and elaborate on. Overall, this requires a well-thought-out implementation plan.
In this education module, you will learn:
• What knowledge utilization/implementation is;
• How to effectively support, optimize and evaluate knowledge utilization/implementation in your study design;
• Tips for writing a knowledge utilization/implementation paragraph for your research proposal.
