Focus of research

My project focuses on elucidating the mechanism behind brain clearance, particularly focusing on the role of the perivascular spaces in this process. By improving the understanding of the mechanism behind brain clearance, we can focus on enhancing the clearance of several proteins in the brain, such as amyloid-beta in Alzheimer's Disease.

This preclinical research includes mice as a model for imaging the brain vasculature and cerebrospinal fluid with two-photon microscopy. We can visualize this using fluorescent tracers in combination with a cranial window. Using these techniques, we can focus on many aspects of the brain clearance pathway. The main objectives of my project includes the basic characteristics of perivascular spaces, the driving forces of brain clearance, but also the effects of hypertension and sleep on perivascular spaces and tracer clearance.
