Focus of research

I am fascinated by the brain’s capability to learn and adjust itself in health and disease. In the past years I have focussed on studying the relationship of changes in brain networks and cognitive decline in AD. For this I use my own invention of single-subject grey matter networks that can explain more variance in cognitive decline than simpler volumetric measures of structural MRI scans. My team has contributed several papers over the years to show that grey matter network breakdown is key to predict decline over the cognitive spectrum of AD, demonstrating its great prognostic potential. Currently, I am further developing multimodal methodologies to advance our understanding of the biological process that explain loss of grey matter connectivity, using cerebrospinal fluid proteomics.
