The Toolkit EMB & ICT is being developed to inform and inspire parents of children with severe multiple disabilities (EMB) in the use of technology. The aim is to promote interaction, involvement and participation between parent and child through technological tools.

Collaboration due to Covid-19

Dr. Evelien van Wingerden, researcher on the project "Toolkit EMB & ICT" has sought cooperation with the initiators of the project "Ik ga EMB! Speelbox ”. The Ik ga EMB! Speelbox offers play material to families that care for children with severe intellectual and physical disabilities, including instructions for use and play suggestions for a period of three weeks. The project is part of the campaign “I'm going EMB!” and set up by Stichting In Actie in collaboration with Schakelspeelgoed and Rijndam Kinderrevalidatie. The project is funded by Het Gehandicapte Kind.

The project “Ik ga EMB! Speelbox ”aims to stimulate the playing together of families with a child with severe multiple disabilities (EMB) during this Corona crisis. During this period, children with EMB are at home fulltime. They cannot go to school or daycare activities where they are normally stimulated, and care practitioners cannot visit the children. Families themselves do not always have the means to support or stimulate their child. They often struggle to come up with activities to undertake with their child.

EMB & ICT has collaborated with the coordinator of the Speelbox initiative to develop a user survey among parents who have received the Speelbox at home. The findings will complement the qualitative research results that follow from the project Toolkit EMB&ICT.
