Focus of research
  • Radiology and Imaging in Medical Diagnostics: Utilizing CT, PET-CT and MRI in diverse applications, including bone health assessment, cancer metastasis detection, and cardiovascular disease evaluation and in emergency medicine.
  • Bone Health and Osteoporosis: Investigating the efficacy of imaging techniques in diagnosing and monitoring bone density and fractures, emphasizing the importance of early intervention in bone-related diseases.
  • Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment: Focusing on the use of imaging in the diagnosis and treatment of liver tumours and metastases.
  • Cardiovascular Imaging: Contributing to the understanding of coronary artery diseases and myocardial blood flow through advanced imaging.
  • Innovations in Medical Imaging Techniques: Developing and refining medical imaging methodologies to enhance diagnostic capabilities in various medical contexts.

Prof. dr. van Kuijk is Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Amsterdam UMC. He completed his medical studies at Leiden University (1988) and his doctoral studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam (1991), where he also completed radiology training (1996). He worked at the University of California in San Francisco for a year in research and then two years as an assistant professor. Prof. dr. van Kuijk joined the AMC in Amsterdam in 1998 and established the radiology trial office and the emergency radiology section. He was the deputy head of the Department of Radiology at Radboud UMC in Nijmegen for two years (2004-2006). Since 2006,  Prof. dr. van Kuijk has been the Head of the Department of Radiology at VUMC and since 2012, he has been the Head of the combined Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at VUMC. In 2020 the departments of radiology and nuclear medicine at AMC and at VUMC merged into Amsterdam UMC and he became head of the new department.
