Focus of research

KARLIJN JOLING (PhD) is a clinical epidemiologist specialised in health services research and a senior researcher at the Department of Medicine  for Older People at Amsterdam UMC. Her research line focuses on the re-use of (routinely collected) data to improve the quality of care for older people living in nursing homes and living in the community. Relevant projects include the ‘BESt practices In DEmentia care’ (BESIDE) project (PI) and ‘Verspreidings- en Implementatieimpuls BESIDE project’ (PI), both granted by ZonMw within the ZonMw Memorable program (PI), the fellowship Resilience in dementia caregivers (PI), granted by the Dutch Alzheimer’s Association, Horizon2020 project ICARE4OLD (Work Package leader) granted by the European Union, ‘Dementieregister’ and ‘Leren van Data’ (PI), both granted by the Ministry of Health Welfare and Sport.

In her research, she used a variety of designs and methodologies, including (cost-)effectiveness evaluation of complex interventions, observational research using large longitudinal datasets, and data harmonization. She currently supervises five PhD students.
