Focus of research

dr. Karuna van der Meij is a postdoctoral researcher at the section Community Genetics, department of Human Genetics, Amsterdam UMC. The title of her PHD thesis was: 'Implementing genome-wide non-invasive prenatal testing in a national prenatal screening program.'

She was awarded the NACGG Leo ten Kate Talentprijs in November 2022 and the price for 2nd best oral presentation by a young investigator at the 2022 joint meeting from the Dutch and Belgian societies for Human Genetics (NVHG/BESHG) in Bruges. Her 2019 publication in the American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG) was awarded as one of the top ten “key advances in applying genomic information to clinical care in the previous twelve months of published literature.” During her PhD trajectory Karuna was active as a board member of the association for and by Amsterdam UMC PhD candidates (ASAP) and as a PhD representative in the Amsterdam UMC doctoral school board.
