Focus of research
Prof.dr.ir. Henrica CW de Vet is Professor in Clinimetrics, at the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science, Amsterdam University medical center, location VU, Amsterdam. She is clinical epidemiologist by training and her focus is on methodological research. She has special expertise on the development and improvement of measurement instruments. She has been involved in the development of internationally-accepted methodological standards of, among others, the quality of measurement instruments (COSMIN) and reporting of diagnostic studies (STARD initiative).
Henrica C.W. de Vet is first author of the book “Measurement in Medicine”, Cambridge University Press 2011. She performed methodological research in several fields, such as musculoskeletal disorders, palliative and end-of-life care, and cancer. She published over 450 peer-reviewed papers, mostly on validity, reliability and interpretability of outcome measures.
In her research she focuses on the measurement of health status of patients, but also on quality of health care. She has extensive expertise on the development and evaluation of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), both for use in health care research and clinical practice. She is involved in the Dutch-Flemish PROMIS group promoting the use of IRT questionnaires in health care settings. She also collaborates with clinicians on the evaluation of non-PROMs, such as performance tests and imaging techniques.
