Family support, ICU support, mixed method research

Focus of research

My current research focus is on family support in the intensive care unit (ICU). Together with my team I evaluate family support on the ICU in COVID-19 times in the Netherlands. The evaluation includes both the perspectives of family members of ICU patients and of healthcare providers. We employ mixed method research in which I combine quantitative surveys and qualitative interviewing. Our goal is to create a practical handbook which contains advice on how to best provide family support in times of crises.

Furthermore I work with quantitative data from the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam, with which I investigate the self-reported changes in meaning in life and personal development experienced by older adults in the Netherlands during the COVID-19 pandemic.
