General

For the first time: a national collaboration between all Dutch academic centres. The Jaarsymposium Psychiatrie will bring together all seven Dutch academic centres into one further training initiative. This new symposium will be carried by the department heads of psychiatry of every centre and will shape the beginning of an annual tradition, where psychiatry related exchange and profesional connection will be the main focus.

The goal of this initiative is to make visible what is existing and growing in each Dutch academic centre. To ensure that psychiatrist over the whole country know where each expertise is available, which innivations are being developed, and where possible collaborations can grow.

Each year the symposium will be held in another city. For the first edition the Amsterdam academic centre invites colleagues from all over the country on October 9th 2025. In addition, following the symposium online will also be possible, to ensure that psychiatrist from all over the country have easy access to this symposium.

Led by prof. dr. Arne Popma, and in collaboration with all department heads, a carefully curated program has been created. Content, shape and theme are anchored in the clinical practise and science of psychiatry - by psychiatrist, for psychiatrist.

The theme of the first edition will be neuromodulation - a topic that is innovative and relevant for all psychiatrist, despite of their experience with these techniques. Neuromodulation is growing in the field of psychiatry. From ECT to rTMS, from deep brain stimulation to upcoming at home treatments: this field is changing and is provoking new questions, about treatment decisions, indications, effectiveness and ethics. Also those who deal less with this on a daily basis, will notive the influence of these developments in innovations and broader psychiatric care.

During this symposium experts form all academic centres will provide an overview of their current state of affairs. What is currently possible? What will be coming? What works for who - and what is the clinical practise requesting? We will bring together science and clinical practice for an accesible and inspiring program, with lectures, practical examples, discussions, and contributions of specialists.

Neuromodulation is reaching more fields within psychiatry - from mood disorders to obsessive compulsice disorders, eating disorders, neuropsychiatry and beyond. This day is meant for every psychiatrist - whether your daily work involves neuromodulation, or just wish to broaden your knowledge. Together we will build a national overview, strengthen collaborations between institutions and create exchange of knowledge that is useful for everyone.
