Sixteen hospitals located in North Holland, Flevoland, and the Northern region of South Holland are set to enhance their collaborative efforts in providing oncological care for patients with bladder cancer. This initiative, known as the Bladder Cancer Network, is spearheaded by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, Amsterdam UMC-Cancer Center Amsterdam, and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC).

Annually, approximately 700 individuals in this region receive a bladder cancer diagnosis. Through the exchange of knowledge and expertise in patient care, research, training, and education, the participating hospitals aim to enhance the quality of care for individuals diagnosed with bladder cancer. The initial focus will be on the management of muscle-invasive bladder cancer, where there is significant potential for quality improvement.

Better Together

The participating hospitals have already established a collaborative framework in the form of multidisciplinary consultations, where patient treatment plans are jointly reviewed. There is now a concerted effort to further strengthen this collaboration by defining the essential prerequisites for exemplary bladder cancer care across all participating clinics. After best practices are identified, healthcare professionals will receive education and training in the latest treatment protocols, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. This approach aims to achieve consistent, high-quality care for bladder cancer, irrespective of the treating hospital. The collaboration will also foster scientific research by supporting joint efforts in innovations and studies.

Participating Hospitals

In addition to the hospitals in the OncoNoVo+ network (Flevo Hospital, Noordwest Hospital Group, Spaarne Gasthuis, Rode Kruis Hospital, Amsterdam UMC, Tergooi, Zaans Medical Center, Hospital Amstelland, Hospital St. Jansdal, Dijklander Hospital, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, OLVG and BovenIJ Hospital), the Leiden University Medical Center, Alrijne Hospital, Groene Hart Hospital and Haaglanden Medical Center also participate in the Bladder Cancer Network.

OncoNoVo+

OncoNoVo+ represents an alliance among all 13 hospitals in North Holland and Flevoland, aimed at enhancing the quality of oncology care. The '+' in OncoNoVo+ denotes the inclusion and collaboration of additional healthcare institutions both within and beyond regional boundaries. The OncoNoVo+ initiative plays a pivotal role in the oncology landscape, providing services to nearly a quarter of all oncology patients in the Netherlands, underscoring its significant impact on cancer care across the nation.
