On Sunday, October 15, the next edition of TCS Amsterdam Marathon will take place. Once again, the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF Kankerbestrijding) is teaming up to help raise funds for regional cancer research.

Fundraising from the marathon will benefit the ‘Ren voor de Regio’ project. Within this project, Cancer Center Amsterdam and Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, together with IKNL, DORP and hospitals in North Holland and Flevoland, are all joining forces to establish a centralized oncology research network. This collaborative approach allows greater sharing of resources, knowledge, and expertise, which can lead to more innovative ideas and breakthroughs in cancer research.

This is a unique initiative! We are harnessing the power of collaboration to do research faster and more efficiently with each other.
Prof. Sonja Zweegman,
Ren voor de Regio Project Leader, Cancer Center Amsterdam

Prof. Jan Paul Medema, Director of Research at Cancer Center Amsterdam and co-principal investigator of the project: “The majority of clinical trials are currently being conducted in university medical centers. This initiative will increase the availability of novel, potentially valuable treatment options for cancer patients in the region.”
