Focus of research
Alexander de Porto's research employs multi-omics approaches to answer clinical questions in cancer immunology, with a focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His work examines the relationship between the gut microbiome, its metabolites, and the immune system’s response to AML.
de Porto's early research at the Amsterdam UMC investigated the role of Bruton's tyrosine kinase and the spleen in host defense against bacterial pathogens. He further expanded his expertise during a postdoctoral fellowship in the United States at the University of Chicago, determing the impact of the gut microbiome and microbiome dervied metabolites on mortallity in critically ill.
