Specialization

Roland is a Ph.D. candidate at Amsterdam UMC in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery, specializing in computational modeling of complex biological systems. His research focuses on developing advanced in-silico models to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying skin wound healing after burn injuries. With a strong academic foundation in Biomedical Sciences from Portugal, Roland brings expertise in medical, cellular, and molecular biology to his interdisciplinary work.

Focus of research

COMBI(COmputational Modeling of Burn Injuries) project is part of Roland's journey for his PhD, aiming to create a sophisticated computational model that deciphers the dynamics of burn wound healing. Collaborating with the Molecular Cell Biology & Immunology (Skin Lab), Dutch burn centers (ABDC), and the Computational Science Lab (CSLab), he integrates in-silico approaches with experimental and clinical insights. His research interests lie at the intersection of computational science, regenerative medicine, and translational research, with a focus on advancing innovative solutions for tissue regeneration.
