The collective employment agreement of the Amsterdam UMC (CAO of the UMC's) contains a provision for a PhD Graduation Bonus (art. 17.4.4; only in Dutch). The AMR (AMC Medical Research) BV has adapted this provision in their Collective Agreement (art. 13a.1.10)
The provision is valid for research trainees (Onderzoeker in Opleiding or OiO). All research trainees employed by Amsterdam UMC or AMR BV - and only them - are eligible for a gratuity of 750 euro gross. The gratuity is awarded to research trainees if they succesfully obtain the doctorate during their four year contract. The bonus may not be balanced with other local compensation regulations. PhD candidates employed elsewhere and those who are not appointed as research trainee do not qualify for the PhD bonus
Note that the head of department should send a request to department HR to grant the PhD, no later than 3 months after the defence and no later than 6 months after end of employment
