Henry de Vries, dermatologist and professor of skin infections at Amsterdam UMC, recently shared his knowledge about the monkeypox virus with NOS. In this article, de Vries indicates that the number of infections with the monkeypox virus has declined throughout Europe, America and Brazil. The extent to which this is due to the vaccination campaign is currently being investigated. According to de Vries, behavioral change has played an important role in extinguishing the virus. The advice was to reduce the number of sex partners in order to reduce the chance of virus transmission. De Vries: ‘That was the focus of the campaign and it was heeded’.
