On Monday 10 January, honorary doctorates will be awarded to immunologists and vaccine developers Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci during the Celebration of the 390th anniversary of the UvA. Honorary supervisors are Theo Geijtenbeek (Professor of Molecular and Cellular Immunology) and Yvette van Kooyk (Professor of Molecular Cellular Biology and Immunology)

Programme
After the opening of the celebration, Karen Maex (Rector Magnificus) speak about the disruptive effects of both digitalisation and conspiracy theories, and the ways in which the university could and should respond to them. This will be followed by a round table discussion on the subject with assistant professor of Political Communication Michael Hameleers and assistant professor of Political Science Eefje Steenvoorden. Next, university professor of Environmental Economics Rick van der Ploeg will deliver the Dies speech, in which he discusses the political and social obstacles that stand in the way of a serious climate policy and what can be done to clear the way. Honorary doctorates will be awarded to economist and first female director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and to immunologists and vaccine developers Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci. Honorary supervisors are Sweder van Wijnbergen (professor of Economics), and Theo Geijtenbeek (professor of Molecular and Cellular Immunology) and Yvette van Kooyk (professor of Molecular Cellular Biology and Immunology). Our study associations Sefa with Room for Discussion from the Faculty of Economics & Business and MFAS and the Faculty Student Council of Medicine will pay homage to the honorary doctors, each in their own way.
