A large proportion of people who become ill from the coronavirus still suffer from it months later. But how exactly these complaints arise and how many people have so many complaints that they cannot go to work, we do not yet know.

If you still have symptoms three months after a corona infection, then we speak of long-term covid, Menno de Jong, Professor of Clinical Virology at the Amsterdam UMC and researcher of AII, told NU.nl.

De Jong is currently doing research into long-term complaints after a corona infection. He explains that fatigue is the main complaint in people who do not feel well months after COVID-19. In addition, some people have problems with smell and taste, for example. People also sometimes suffer from shortness of breath. The latter is especially true for people who were so ill that they had to be hospitalised.
