Last week, 200 PhD candidates from Amsterdam UMC-Cancer Center Amsterdam and Netherlands Cancer Institute attended the annual PhD retreat organized by the Oncology Graduate School Amsterdam (Onderzoekschool Oncologie Amsterdam, OOA). The event was a success, highlighting the wide range of oncology-related research performed in Amsterdam while also fostering collaboration and interaction between the attendees!

All PhD students presented their research via a poster or an oral presentation. The wide range of topics in the field of cancer provided all attendees an opportunity to explore research fields beyond their own expertise.

Our social program featured an energizing percussion workshop and a creative painting workshop, allowing attendees to explore their artistic side or become energized by the Brazilian rhythm.

Olympic Medal-Winning Boxer Nouchka Fontijn

One of the highlights of the program was the inspirational presentation by the Olympic medal-winning boxer, Nouchka Fontijn. During her presentation, she drew powerful parallels between the journey to success of Olympic athletes and that of our PhD candidates, leaving the audience motivated to tackle their own academic challenges.

Awards

We want to congratulate the three poster and three presentation prize winners, who have shown us some of the most appealing and interesting stories of the event.

Enjoy these snapshots from the event, capturing the vibrant PhD community and some memorable moments.
