With a growing number of nurses in Amsterdam UMC with a master’s education and a keen interest in underpinning their daily work in evidence-based practices, Dr. Jolanda Maaskant and Dr. Anne Eskes, both senior nurse researchers within Cancer Center Amsterdam, organized a network meeting aimed at stimulating the connections among fellow nurses.

Despite their shared dedication to nursing research in oncology, not everyone knew each other, given the diverse departments where these nurses are actively engaged.

During this gathering, Prof. Hanneke van Laarhoven and Dr. Gitta Kuipers delivered inspiring presentations, emphasizing the importance of nursing research, and highlighting the support Cancer Center Amsterdam has to offer. The discussion revolved around strategies for increasing the involvement of more nurse researchers within the research institute. Key points raised included the need for an adaptive training program, for example focusing on different study designs. Additionally, there was a call for the establishment of a platform where nurse researchers could connect with other Cancer Center Amsterdam researchers and enhance their visibility within the organization.

The event also featured presentations of ongoing research projects by PhD candidates Wilda Rosmolen, Susanne Arends, and Selma Musters.
