Joris van der Post, professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Amsterdam UMC, has been bestowed a royal decoration of Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. Amsterdam Reproduction and Development congratulates him with this royal honor.

On the 13th of December 2022, Van der Post received the royal decoration out of the hands of Sofyan Mbarki, deputy mayor of Amsterdam, because of his years of dedication to gynaecology.

Since 1985, Van der Post has been committed to improving cooperation between midwives and gynaecologists. He introduced the doula, home monitoring of pregnant women and took the initiative for the 'Poli Op Maat'. This clinic is especially for pregnant women who do not feel at home in regular care, for example for women who want to give birth in their own way without protocols or medical intervention. Van der Post has written more than 300 scientific publications, supervised 21 PhD students and conducted major international studies. After working as an academic gynaecologist for 30 years, Van der Post will stop at Amsterdam UMC.
