Focus of research

Esther Bührman has a background in Biomedical Sciences (MSc) - specialization Neurobiology & Science in Society - and Philosophy of Neuroscience (MA). Her mission is to bridge the gap between science and society by researching the ethical and societal aspects of developments in biomedical (neuro)science, and the factors contributing to responsible research and innovation. She is also passionate about public engagement and education.

Her PhD project focuses on studying stakeholder perspectives in drug repurposing for rare neurological disorders in SIMPATHIC, an international consortium funded by the European Commission. As part of this project, Esther is responsible for:

  • The development of a patient-centered ethical framework
  • Multistakeholder co-creation
