Focus of research
Hein van Hout, MPsy, MPhil, PhD is affiliated at the Departments of General Practice & Medicine for Older People, Amsterdam Public Health Institute, of the Amsterdam University medical center. He co-chairs a research group on aging and brain health that aims to contribute to independence, quality of life and care quality of older persons with vulnerable health and their informal carers. This is done through: 1) developing decision support for professionals to provide appropriate care and 2) identifying best practices in the organisation of care.
He coordinated several multinational studies: I-CARE4OLD on improving prognostics of older persons with chronic complex conditions; IBenC on quality and cost of home care; PACE trial to improve palliative care in residential homes.
He is board member of interRAI a collaborative network of scienists and care professionals in over thirty countries committed to improving quality of life for vulnerable persons by evidence-informed clinical practice and policy making. He is member of INTERDEM the world’s largest expert network on timely diagnosis and psychosocial interventions for persons with dementia and their relatives.
He engages with local academic workplaces that aim to improve quality of life of older persons through evidence based quality care: NEDRAI, ANHA, UNO Amsterdam, Ben Sajet Center,
