Focus of research

PhD candidate in Internal medicine currently working on systemic health effect of silicone breast implants. This research is part of a research consortium initiated by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, coordinated by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.  Collaborating parties include: NIVEL, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek ziekenhuis, DBIR and Maastricht UMC.

We see, treat and study women with silicone breast implants and systemic symptoms in our silicone outpatient clinic, part of the department of Internal Medicine. 

Furthermore, we collaborate with other universities including UGent and UMC Groningen and (international) patient organizations. 

SiPoNed (Siliconen Poliklinieken Nederland): in collaboration with a network of Internists and Plastic Surgeons we organized the care for these patients and developed guidelines.
