To assist researchers in their quest to acquire project funding through grants, Cancer Center Amsterdam appointed Dr. Wietske Pieters as ‘Grant Advisor’ earlier this year. Wietske helps to link researchers with the necessary resources to propel innovative cancer research.

Through introductory meetings with over 50 Principal Investigators (PIs) at Cancer Center Amsterdam so far, Wietske has mapped out the research landscape at the research institute and is already actively connecting researchers with fitting funding opportunities.

I am increasingly able to scout and connect researchers with interesting opportunities, and I assist researchers in finding the grant that best fits their research.

Wietske also provides review support for several types of grants including Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), Worldwide Cancer Research, and Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowships (MSCA-PF) or doctoral network grants (MSCA-DN). She collaborates closely with the Amsterdam UMC Grant Support Desk to provide researchers with the most optimal form of support.

Resources for grant applications

In collaboration with Marieke Koelink, Wietske has refined the internal review procedure for KWF proposals. A suite of resources is now available to further assist researchers, including a financial checklist and a structured data management section template.

Additionally, Wietske provides hands-on support for large grant applications including consortium building, letters of support, and help in drafting preliminary proposals.

To streamline access to funding opportunities, she regularly updates the grant funding calendar which provides an overview of overview of national, European, and international oncology-related funding possibilities. The funding calendar can be downloaded from our website.

In addition to her activities as a grant advisor, Wietske also keeps a close eye on talented researchers within CCA, providing recommendations to diverse awarding agencies. Know a talent you would like to recommend?
