Focus of research
As a Postdoc I have a broad interest in applying research to personalise psychiatry and provide an evidence base for daily clinical practice.
My PhD focused on endocrinological and metabolic alterations in depression. By applying interdisciplinary and multimodal methods we linked fatty acids to HPA-axis functioning and neuroimaging. Findings, including our meta-analyses, suggest that dietary omega-3 fatty acids can improve antidepressant effectivity. This was implemented in the Dutch guidelines and the diet served at the department of psychiatry of the AMC now includes more omega-3 fatty acids.
During my Postdoc I am involved in research on deep brain stimulation for psychiatric disorders in the Denys group. In addition I perform a literature study on physical and pharmacological restraints in hospital care.
