Upcoming online courses for biomedical professionals; scholarships available

This spring, LUMC/PJ Futurelab will offer three interactive online courses specifically designed for post-graduate biomedical and pharmaceutical professionals. The programs are tailored for participants working in academia, industry, business development, Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs), or regulatory authorities.

The courses combine real-world case studies from industry R&D including Investigator’s Brochures (IBs), Investigational Product Dossiers (IMPDs), guidance from experts from industry, engaging animations, self-paced assignments, quizzes, and live video sessions with mentors and peers—ensuring a dynamic and practical learning experience.

Participants will also gain access to a set of powerful, exclusive tools to support their professional work:

  • License Agreement Builder – for drafting license agreements.
  • Patent Portfolio Calculator – to estimate patent application and maintenance costs.
  • Questions Optimizing Calculator – to design efficient clinical product development programs.
  • Receptor Occupancy Calculator – to calculate receptor binding of your product.
  • Market Approval Navigator – to identify the most relevant ICH, EMA, FDA guidelines.

In addition, a limited number of scholarships are available for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers currently employed at Dutch universities, university medical centers, research institutes, or hospitals.

Intellectual Property course, starting date: March 2nd, 2026

Obtaining a patent is a key step in safeguarding the intellectual property of a new biomedical product and to raise funding for development. In this course you’ll learn the pros and cons of intellectual property, as well as the main do’s and don’ts to help you protect your biomedical invention in a timely manner.

Clinical Product Development course, starting date: March 2nd, 2026

Clinical development plays a vital role in R&D for new products. Strengthen your expertise in determining safe and effective starting doses using NOAEL and MABEL methods, and deepen your understanding of project valuation calculations through real-world case studies. Enhance your critical reading skills by analyzing an actual Investigator’s Brochure (IB) for a First-in-Human trial. Case studies cover the development of a new antibiotic and an antibody with a novel mechanism of action, as well as a medical device and a medical nutrition product designed to treat a life-threatening disease.
