For the second time, the AUF Startstipendium, a grant of € 25,000 per laureate, has been awarded to nine innovative scientists at Amsterdam UMC. Thanks to this financial support, made possible by the Spinoza Fund of the Amsterdam University Fund (AUF), they can carry out innovative projects that advance their academic careers.

The young scientists focus on pressing medical issues. Margot Morssinkhof, on behalf of the research institute Amsterdam Public Health (APH), has been awarded an AUF Startstipendium. Morssinkhof investigates how often depressive symptoms worsen in women in the days or week before their periods.

Many women with depression find that their symptoms increase monthly in the week before their periods, which seems to be associated with longer and more severe depressive episodes
