Focus of research
Alicia is an epidemiologist specialised in cardiovascular epidemiology, with a focus on optimising and personalising the care and treatment for patients with heart failure. She investigates how (linked) real-world data, including electronic health records and registry data, can be used to assess medication effectiveness, treatment adherence, and long-term outcomes. By integrating pharmaco-epidemiological methods and predictive modelling, her work aims to support data-driven decision-making in cardiovascular care. With a strong interest in applied science, she contributes to the implementation of patient-centred innovations within healthcare systems.
She obtained her PhD on Real-World Evidence in Heart Failure from University Medical Center Utrecht. During her PhD she collaborated with the Institute for Health Informatics at University College London where she studied Electronic Health Records and Risk Factors for Heart Failure. In addition, she collaborated with Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, where she analysed data from the Swedisch Heart Failure registry.
Following her PhD, Alicia continued as Assistant Professor at University Medical Center Utrecht studying Personalised Medicine for patients with Heart Failure. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at Amsterdam University Medical Center and affiliated researcher at Karolinska Institutet.
In addition, Alicia serves as a project manager and daily board member in the Heart4Data Consortium which aims to accelerate cardiovascular registry-based research in the Netherlands. She is also involved in large European consortia, including BigData@Heart, DataTools4Heart and AI4HF.
