Specialization

Assistant professor and general practitioner

Focus of research

As an academic general practitioner, I combine patient care with clinical research focused on the detection and management of cardiovascular disease within primary care settings. I practice at Holendrecht Health Center, in Amsterdam South-East, serving a diverse and multicultural population, which enriches my clinical insights and approach.

My clinical expertise includes cardiovascular medicine, basic surgery, and echocardiography, with certification from the Dutch Cardiovascular Echography Board (CHBB). I have a strong interest in innovations in (point-of-care) diagnostics, including AI-supported technologies, aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency in primary care.

In addition to clinical and research duties, I contribute to medical education through active involvement in the bachelor’s and master’s curriculum of medicine at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

Current Research Leadership:
I lead and supervise several innovative projects aimed at improving cardiovascular outcomes in primary care, including:

  • TRACE (ZonMw) & HEART-GP (Dutch Heart Foundation): Optimizing triage and evaluation of acute chest pain in urgent primary care

  • TARGET-HF (ZonMw/AMC): Enhancing detection and diagnosis of heart failure in primary care

  • PATCH-AF (ZonMw): Screening strategies for atrial fibrillation in at-risk patients within primary care
