EenVandaag, a Dutch television broadcast, interviewed Femke Bouwman and Paul van der Valk of Amsterdam UMC on the importance of post-mortem brain research. Principal investigator Paul van der Valk and his team were one of the first to discover that COVID-19 can also affect the brain. Something that could not have been discovered without post-mortem brain research.

Neurologist Femke Bouwman highlights the importance of post-mortem examination for science, but also relatives. Due to a lack of structural funding, no new neuropathologists can be trained. Bouwman, therefore, calls on health insurance companies not to stop an insurance policy at the exact moment a patient dies so funding will become available.
