Dr. Martijn Heymans is the new Director of the post-initial Master Program Epidemiology as of April 1st 2025.

Martijn Heymans is a Principal Investigator at the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science and the Amsterdam Public Health (APH) research institute of Amsterdam UMC. His main research focus is on applied research methodology. He is involved in education for the Master program Epidemiology and teaches bachelor, minor, and master students within the Medical School and Health Sciences. His goal is to investigate the added value of new statistical methods for epidemiologists and medical researchers and to translate them into concrete applications, making them widely accessible and fostering a strong connection between research and education.

The goal of the Master program in Epidemiology is to train high-quality researchers who can translate research questions from the practice of health care and public health into appropriate research designs and conduct these studies. In doing so, they contribute meaningfully to solving issues in the field of disease and health. The Master program Epidemiology is recognized by the Association for Epidemiology (VvE) as an “Accredited Epidemiology Program” and was rated as excellent by the “Keuzegids Masters 2025”.
