The incidence of women losing more than one litre of blood during childbirth (postpartum hemorrhage) has increased between 2000 and 2014. The use of interventions such as induction of labour, pain relief and caesarean sections has also increased. However, there seems to be limited association between the increase in the number of interventions and the rising trend in postpartum hemorrhage. This is what our AR&D researcher and midwife Anna Seijmonsbergen-Schermers concludes based on the study she conducted by analyzing data of more than 2.3 million women in the Netherlands.

The study was published in the academic journal Birth.
