Becoming a leader in the public health and care research domain requires more than being an excellent scientist. In addition to acquiring competencies concerning content, one also needs the knowledge, skills and tools to understand and manage the context. Therefore, the Netherlands School of Public Health and Care Research (CaRe), in which APH is a partner organization, has established an internationally oriented Public Health and Care Research Leadership Program of which the first edition started in 2021. The fourth edition will start in July 2024.

The new leaders in public health research (who)

The program is intended for postdoctoral researchers with more than 5 years experience (postdocs, assistant/associate professors), who have the ambition to improve their knowledge and skills to become leading researchers in public health and care research. From APH, 4-5 researchers can participate in the fourth edition of this two year program.* For (internal) APH-researchers, APH will cover €6,500 of the program’s registration fee. A contribution of €2,000 of the internal candidate’s department is required. Overnight stays of €80-€125 per night are not included and must be paid by the candidate. This program is also open for external researchers directly connected to APH's network. A contribution by APH for external candidates is possible upon request, but not guaranteed.

How to join (how)

Interested internal and external researchers who meet the criteria can apply before Thursday March 14, 2024 (17:00 hours) by writing to aph@amsterdamumc.nl with the following 5 documents: (1) motivation letter of candidate, (2) recommendation letter of direct supervisor, (3) (4) two reference letters, and (5) CV demonstrating the candidate’s research track record, current and future research activities and leadership experience. The APH review committee will review all potential candidates for intrinsic motivation for participation, leadership development potential, and academic quality of candidate based on CV.

* The exact number depends on the number of participants from RIHS Nijmegen, NIVEL Utrecht, and CAPHRI Maastricht. If the number of applications exceeds the number of places available for APH, an internal selection round will take place.
