Global Research Projects: The Japanese company Suntory is committed to creating a sustainable future in harmony with nature with a focus on areas such as food and beverage development, health sciences, and environmental conservation.

The company provides subsidy (€90k) for 1-year preclinical research projects in the following areas:

Dementia ・Lowering the risk of developing dementia
・Improving cognitive function or part of it
Blood Sugar ・Preventing blood sugar absorption/easy consumption blood sugar
・Non-invasive blood glucose sensing
Muscle and Bone Health ・Building muscle
・Preventing muscle loss
Anti-Obesity ・Reducing body fat
・Achieving a body that is difficult to gain weight
Bioactivity of sustainable raw materials ・Alternatives to raw materials (Priority: barrel wood, peat, hops, coffee, grapes, vitamin C, sugar, barley; Second priority: corn, sugar cane, citrus fruits, etc.)

Eligibility to Apply:

Researchers affiliated with universities, research institutions, industry & start-ups are welcome to apply. Strong academic/professional background in the relevant field is preferred.

Research Period:

1 year (may be extended or transitioned to joint development with Suntory based on results).

Research Budget:

Up to €90,000 per project/year (final budget determined based on the research content). With potential extension upon proven success/progress

Selection Criteria:

  • Matching with Suntory's needs
  • Superiority and originality of the research
  • Feasibility and rationality of the proposed project

Key Dates & Timeline

  • Application deadline: June 20th 2025
  • Screening/Review period: June 21-30th 2025
  • Notification/Announcement of Selected Researchers: Early July, 2025
  • Research Period: Sept 2025 – Aug 2026

  1. The research budget provided will be determined based on the research content and is not considered a scholarship donation.
  2. Proposals that overlap with work currently being conducted by researchers in joint collaboration with Suntory will not be accepted.
  3. Personal information will be used exclusively for review and research collaboration purposes.
  4. The research outline and plan submitted with the application will be used solely for internal review by Suntory and its related group companies. No confidentiality agreement will be established, so please disclose only information deemed appropriate for this purpose.
  5. Intellectual property rights, the handling of research equipment, and the publication of results will be governed by a joint research agreement.
  6. During the second round of screening, an industry-academia collaboration representative may be required to attend.
  7. Titles and positions will not influence the selection process.
