Internal support is provided to the personal Dekker grants of the Dutch Heart Foundation in order to increase the quality and the success rate of the proposals. It is now possible to register for the internal support for four Dekker grants: Postdoc grant, the Senior Scientist grant, the Clinical Scientist grant, and the Senior Clinical Scientist grant. Amsterdam UMC researchers who are performing research in the cardiovascular field can apply for support till November 21, 2023.

The Dutch Heart Foundation awards personal Dekker grants to support clinical and non-clinical researchers in different stages of their careers. Internal support is provided to researchers from both locations of Amsterdam UMC (AMC and VUmc). This support is coordinated by the Amsterdam UMC Research Grant Support (RGS) together with the ACS research institute.

The Postdoc, Senior Scientist, Clinical Scientist and Senior Clinical Scientist Dekker calls are not open yet, but external deadline is expected early 2024. To register for internal support, please use the pre-application form on the intranet (internal link, only accessible for Amsterdam UMC researchers) and send it to Bart Jordi via rgs@amsterdamumc.nl for non-clinical grants and to Leah Root via l.root@amsterdamumc.nl for clinical grants no later than November 21, 2023.

Dekker grants

Postdoc Dekker grant
The aim of this grant is to provide financial support for recently graduated postdoctoral researchers (max. 3 years after PhD), to allow them to become independent researchers. Extension for parental, care and sickness leave for up to three yearsispossible.The stipend covers the candidate’s salary as well as other research related costs for 2-3 years.

Senior Scientist Dekker grant
This grant is for senior postdoctoral researchers to set up their own research group in the field of cardiovascular research. Applicants must have received their PhD 3-8 years ago (extension for parental, care and sickness leave for up to three years is possible) and must not be registered as a medical specialist or in training to become one. This grant includes financial support for the recipient’s salary for two years as well as for personnel for up to four years.

Clinical Scientist Dekker grant
This grant is intended for (technical) doctors who are in training to be specialists in the field of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this grant is to stimulate these researchers with clinical tasks during their training to become independent researchers. Applicants must be in training to be specialist during the entire research project. For researchers who have not yet obtained a doctorate, this grant is part of their PhD. This grant includes financial support for max. 3 years.

Senior Clinical Scientist Dekker grant
This grant is intended for researchers with clinical tasks, such as (technical) doctors, who have obtained their PhD and have been appointed as specialists max. 4 years ago (extension for parental, care and sickness leave applies). The aim of this grant is to support these researchers in setting up and developing their own line of research and research group. With this grant, researchers can (partially) free themselves from clinical obligations (protected research time). This grant includes financial support for max. 4 years.
