We are happy to share that Anita Boelen has started as co-director of Amsterdam Gastroenterology Endocrinology Metabolism (AGEM) research institute. Together with co-director Stan van de Graaf, she will be responsible for coordination and management of the institute’s ventures, and for ensuring these align with its mission and vision. Anita Boelen is the successor of Gerd Bouma, who has been an inspirational co-director of AGEM for many years.

Anita Boelen is a Professor of Thyroid Hormone Metabolism, in particular molecular and diagnostic aspects, at the Endocrine laboratory, department of Clinical Chemistry at location AMC (University of Amsterdam). Her research focusses on thyroid hormone metabolism in innate immune cells and on mechanisms involved in congenital central hypothyroidism. In addition, she leads the regional Dutch Neonatal Screening program at the Endocrine Laboratory and is thereby responsible for the measurements in heel prick blood of newborns.

I’m excited to be part of the management of AGEM and I look forward to collaborate with leaders of other research institutes within Amsterdam UMC
