Three granted proposals of 40.000 in an open call were obtained by Wouter Schallig, Eric Voorn and Fieke Koopman.

Wouter Schallig has obtained his grant for his research proposal entitled: FABIO: Foot and Ankle Biomechanics and Imaging to improve Orthopedic foot interventions in children with cerebral palsy. This project will open up new opportunities towards personalized medicine for these patients. Eric Voorn successfully submitted his research entitled: Unraveling reduced exercise capacity in neuromuscular diseases using state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging. exercise. In this proof of concept study he and his team evaluate the construct validity of the new MRI platform and analyze peripheral muscle function in relation to reduced exercise capacity in 3 types of neuromuscular diseases (NMD) with distinctive pathologies. Fieke Koopman won her grant for her research entitled: Balancing energy expenditure and energy intake in people with neuromuscular diseases; next steps towards individualized nutritional advice.

Juultje Sommers, Niels Waterval and Joost van den Dool were awarded with a grant of 10.000.

Juultje applied for a grant wit a research entitled: Novel approach for assessment of metabolic load during ICU rehabilitation; evaluating the lactate response. Niels Waterval was awarded for hisresearch: Gait exploration training, a prerequisite to benefit from ankle-foot orthoses? Many intensive care unit (ICU) patients develop ICU acquired weakness and a reduced exercise capacity. Early rehabilitation is advocated to prevent physical deterioration, but knowledge about the metabolic load of rehabilitation interventions is scarce. Providing insight into the exercise response of ICU patients will help to establish objective training variables. Niels Waterval was rewarded for his research: Gait exploration training, a prerequisite to benefit from ankle-foot orthoses? To find the best gait pattern with AFO, exploration of different gait patterns is important. And last but not leas obtained Joost van den Dool a grant for Associations between CPET and Talk Test in patients with Central Neurological Disorders – A clinimetric pilot study. Congrats to all!
