Various partners in the Amsterdam Region have united in an ecosystem of academic psychiatry. ‘Psychiatry Amsterdam’, as an ecosystem, is led by the department of Psychiatry, Amsterdam UMC.

Together with their partners in the region and departments within Amsterdam UMC, they will shape and develop the network over the next year. Think of academic collaborative centers, hospitals, mental health organisations, municipalities and other social partners who share a common interest: improving mental health over the entire life course of people in the North Holland and Flevoland region. The partners currently involved are Amsterdam UMC, GGZ inGeest, Arkin and Levvel, with many more to follow. The programme council of APH Mental Health is also involved in the conversations about expanding and strengthening this network.

In Summer 2025, the new website PsychiatryAmsterdam.nl was launched. This is a research website where all the researchers within this network will showcase their output, research projects, research groups, etc. The research is characterised by a broad interdisciplinary and translational approach, ranging from fundamental research to clinical and prevention studies. The research methods are highly diverse; from research on small patient groups to large-scale epidemiological and genetic studies, like NESDA and HELIUS. From small-scale projects to national consortia and international funded projects. A wide range of research practices is part of this ecosystem.

In the coming months (and years) the website and the Psychiatry Amsterdam ecosystem will expand in collaboration with partners in the region.
