Focus of research
My work as psychiatrist and principal investigator conceptualizes affective disorders in adolescents and young adults as exposome-shaped conditions arising from dynamic interactions between neurodevelopment, immune–metabolic and microbiome systems, and social–environmental stressors. I integrate transitional psychiatry, systems neuroscience, and population-based epidemiology with mechanistic and art–science–based translational research, focusing on anhedonia and affective dysregulation during critical developmental transitions. As founder and lead of the Transitiecentrum Affectieve Stoornissen (TAS) and PI of MoodLabMeets, I develop exposome-informed, developmentally grounded psychobiological interventions that link biological mechanisms, embodied experience, and environmental context.
