On Thursday, June 19th, 2025, the Amsterdam Reproduction and Development (AR&D) research institute will host the "Shaping Tomorrow’s Health Today" symposium from 12:30 to 17:00 at the AMC Lecture Hall 4 in Amsterdam. This event brings together experts to discuss the future of health and the crucial role of interdisciplinary research in shaping a sustainable world for future generations.

Amsterdam UMC’s mission is to contribute to a healthier future for all. AR&D is focused on improving health outcomes today and for future generations, with a particular emphasis on human reproduction and development. Together, we will explore how science can support societal needs and foster sustainable health solutions.

The central question of this year’s symposium is:

How can we create an environment where future generations can thrive and reach their full potential?

The challenges we face – from climate change to inequality and pollution – are deeply intertwined with our health. At this symposium, we will reflect on our role in shaping a better future for all. Join us as we explore how scientific innovation can contribute to a thriving environment for future generations, aligned with the UN Declaration on Future Generations.

Program Highlights:

  • Keynote lecture by Sir Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council
  • Presentations from AR&D researchers on how they contribute to the health of future generations in the lab, clinic, and society
  • Sophie Howe (Wales' First Future Generations Commissioner) shares her experience of considering the interests of future generations
  • A panel discussion with Karen Kruijthof (Board Member at Amsterdam UMC) and Arne Popma (Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC) on the role of science in addressing societal challenges
  • Interactive sessions & networking

After the talks, we will host interactive sessions to help attendees forge new connections and collaborate on tackling the big challenges ahead.
