UNO Amsterdam is an academic network of organizations for elderly care of Amsterdam UMC and collaborating with daily practice in 23 affiliated healthcare organizations.

Objective

In the 23 affiliated healthcare organizations, research and healthcare professionals and clients link scientific knowledge with daily practice. Within the network, solutions to practical questions are sought, for instance through scientific investigation. These research findings are being used to improve patient care. In this way, the development of care for older people is influenced by researchers, care professionals, and clients.

Member organizations: Amsterdam UMC and 23 care organizations, mainly in the region Amsterdam/Noord-Holland/Utrecht, and also region Zwolle and Apeldoorn. (For example: Amstelring, Cordaan, Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland, Vivium Zorggroep, Viva Zorggroep).

Examples

of activities in the field of education and training

  • All partner organizations are training homes for residents (AIOS) in medicine for older adults. During their training, AIOS become acquainted with UNO Amsterdam, and their scientific articles and CATs are throughout the network
  • Collaboration project with ROC Amsterdam and GGD Amsterdam with the aim of improving infection prevention education. This was done at the request of Amsterdam healthcare organizations

of activities in the field of research

  • PhD research within the themes of the network, for example on: euthanasia in dementia, quality of geriatric rehabilitation, COVID-19 and urinary tract infections
  • The UNO works with “living labs”: care organizations that, together with an experienced researcher, develop and carry out research within themes of the UNO-Amsterdam. Employees from these care organizations have the opportunity to pursue a PhD

of activities in the area of care (innovation)

  • Grip on Challenging Behavior: proven effective intervention for diagnosing and treating problem behavior in people with dementia. Weighting framework for the use of involuntary care. Relaunched as UNO-VUmc in 2006 (University Nursing Home Network established in 1993). There is structural collaboration. A cooperation agreement has been concluded between Amsterdam UMC and the 23 care organizations
  • 'Het Wegingskader' - an online tool to support health care providers in including the client perspective in decisions about (in)voluntary care

Relaunched as UNO-VUmc in 2006 (University Nursing Home Network established in 1993), and renamed UNO Amsterdam in 2020.
There is structural cooperation. A contract has been concluded with the partners.
