  • Check-up after high-risk colon polyps can be delayed by two years: just as safe, far less burdensome
Check-up after high-risk colon polyps can be delayed by two years: just as safe, far less burdensome Patients whose high-risk colon polyps have been removed only need a follow-up colonoscopy after five years instead of three. Two large European studies, involving Amsterdam UMC, show this longer interval is just as safe — saving tens of thousands of colonoscopies in the Netherlands each year.
  • Can vitiligo enhance immunotherapy response in melanoma?
Can vitiligo enhance immunotherapy response in melanoma? Melanoma patients who develop vitiligo during immunotherapy tend to have better outcomes. In the new IMMUNIZE-MI study, researchers at Cancer Center Amsterdam are testing whether deliberately inducing this immune response with topical MI therapy can strengthen standard immunotherapy. The study focuses primarily on safety and dose optimization, while searching for early signs of a stronger anti-tumor immune response.
  • Seeing the unseen: novel imaging to capture placental insufficiency as it unfolds
Seeing the unseen: novel imaging to capture placental insufficiency as it unfolds Clinicians currently measure everything around the placenta, such as fetal growth and blood flow patterns, but not the placenta itself. In her PhD thesis, Fatimah Al Darwish combined MRI, contrast-enhanced ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging in a rat model to directly visualize placental perfusion and oxygenation as insufficiency unfolds, uncovering a critical window for early detection and therapy.
