Compassion is crucial for effective patient care, and moreover, it benefits residents’ own well-being. Good news: research indicated that 40 seconds of compassion could help achieving these results*. As compassion is a skill, it can be learnt. So, if you are curious about compassion, how to practice it and would like to investigate your balance between distance and proximity in different patient encounters, this training is what you need!
Content of the training
In two half days, residents get acquainted with the concept of compassion and participate in various interactive and reflective exercises. For example, residents will define their own ‘right middle’ and observe each other applying it during pre-selected patient encounters. Patients will share their experiences, and residents can ask judgeless questions to enhance their understanding. This training also considers the influence of the working environment on residents’ ability to provide care with a cool head and warm heart.
