Alberto Testoni went on a work visit to the Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) in San Diego, California, from June 30 to July 9, 2026.
"Our work on how mentions of patient identity can distort the accuracy and confidence of generative AI models, unveiling the biases and stereotypes embedded in Large Language, was presented at ACL 2026, one of the leading international venues in the field. I also co-organized a Birds of a Feather session on identity and fairness in AI systems, which brought together researchers now helping shape our next steps.
It was striking how many colleagues, including from across Europe, were unfamiliar with Amsterdam UMC and found the combination of clinical practice and AI research here genuinely unusual, so the conference did real work in raising the visibility of the organization.
Personally, the exchanges sharpened my sense of what it takes to move evaluation methods from benchmarks into a hospital setting, and opened new international collaborations to build on. My thanks to the APH Methodology program for making this possible."
