Focus of research
Laura S. Kuipers is a PhD candidate on improving counseling for prenatal screening to support autonomous reproductive decision-making for pregnant women. With a background in international public health and bioethics, she is strongly committed to achieving equitable access to health services, particularly through the empowerment of marginalized groups. Laura is trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. She has experience with interdisciplinary approaches, involving key stakeholders and people with lived experience, addressing different power structures, cultural diversity and health literacy.
The findings of her study on the quality of counseling are being implemented in national training guidelines for counselors in prenatal screening and were referenced by the State Secretary in a letter to the Dutch parliament, highlighting the societal impact of her work.
